Jimmy Bales was buried at Oak Park Cemetery in New Castle, PA, at approximately 1:00pm on September 9, 2009. After the service at the funeral home it was announced that Jimmy would be taken to the cemetery, but no formal ceremony would take place. Most folks went on to the wake at Edwards Restaurant but a handful followed the hearse to the cemetery. After the casket was covered with the vault and lowered to its final resting place, Jimmy's daughter Terrie stood over and said a final goodbye. Everybody departed for the wake after this, but I stayed (with my cousin Carrie Gierlach) and watched the workers complete the job over the next hour. They also put all the displaced stones from the surrounding area back in place. It's not something you really get to see and I was fascinated. I also wanted to make sure Uncle Jimmy was taken care of properly. Here are some of the photos from that day.
